Promotion engine plugin

The situation

One of our marketing agency partners had put together a brilliant promotional campaign for their client, a global networking company that was launching a new platform.

The promotion was to include a competition based around the playful theme of whether some people have a ‘sixth sense’.
To make this a reality, our client needed a promotion engine that could run the competition and handle the highly customised mechanic.

What we did

The promotion engine

We used our self-developed promotion engine to run this competition. Out of the tin, the engine is able to:

  • receive and store prize draw or competition data
  • randomly select winners
  • send emails to winners
  • support a variety of entry mechanics - e.g. limiting entries to one per email address per day
  • display and export reports
  • allow the client to manage their user accounts, roles and permissions

Customisation for this entry mechanic

An additional plugin for the promotion engine was needed to handle the specific mechanic for this competition.

In this competition entrants were required to answer ‘True’ or ‘False’ to 8 questions. The twist was that they did not get to see each question first. After inputting ‘True’ or ‘False’ the entrant would find out if they had chosen correctly when they were shown the full answer to the question. Before an entrant was able to play the 'True' or 'False' game they were required to correctly answer one question that required skill.

We enhanced the promotion engine to:

  • deliver a new set of 8 questions/answers each week, in a random order
  • allocate an entrant one entry into a weekly prize draw for each correct answer
  • allocate an entrant one entry only into the grand prize draw if they got one or more answers correct
  • automatically upload an overnight data feed for the client’s CRM.

Test entry data received from promotion web pages

Using the promotion engine helped our client ensure that data was processed in compliance with the relevant laws and codes of practice relating to data protection and the running of promotional prize competitions.
